Synopsis
The action of the play takes place over the space of an hour in an imaginary third world country today on the day before a war is expected. A retired general, formerly a distinguished soldier and a public hero, now a security chief, has apparently disabled a key element in the country's defence system and stolen the blue-print. His brother, unbeknown to him also a senior figure in the security forces, is sent to retrieve the blue-print and find out the reason for the theft. A third member of the security forces stands by to assassinate the general if necessary. As the general's story unfolds, his ambivalent feelings towards his past military career are revealed, as well as the fact that what he has actually stolen is the formula of a recently discovered weapon of mass destruction. The play explores the various moral dilemmas that all three characters face in their respective situations, and in particular whether to return the weapon's formula to the authorities when there is reason to suppose that it may be immediately used.
