Synopsis
Malta 'Molly' Blackburn was a talented botanical-painter who traveled widely with her widower father. When her father died suddenly New Zealand, she took on the role of the solitary pilgrim. On an impulse that moved her within a spectrum of eccentric people and exotic locations, she directed her interest of painting plants into a life-long career. In fact, her drawings and paintings of flora gained her respect and notoriety in Victorian England and eventually a London-based gallery. The story is told from the protagonist's point-of-view and reveals much of the experiences of the British Victorian lady traveler of the mid-to-late 1800s. View extract.
